Elena Toutountzi is an Architect with a Master’s degree in restoration of historic sites and buildings.
Her love for the Fine Arts goes beyond architecture as she was singing, painting and writing short stories from a very young age. She studied piano and sang in a children’s choir however, looking for other kinds of artistic expression, she delved into drawing and fiction writing during her high school and university years.
Looking for an escape from her full time job between the office and construction sites, she started singing again in 2006 in a cover band. In 2007 she joined the rock band Sinnamon (later re-named 7 Sins Motel) as lead singer and song co-writer mainly with English lyrics. They released a couple of singles in the –then- upcoming “My Space” music platform. Their music was of the alternative, post rock genre with a dark cinematic feeling.
In 2010, 7 Sins Motel was disbanded and three of their members, including Elena, formed the music band Tzouran-Tzouran. In the beginning they played known pieces of the Greek urban music style from the 40’s-60’s called rebetiko. They soon proceeded writing their own lyrics and music very close to the rebetiko genre infused with a more contemporary sound. They labeled their music style as “rustic rebetiko rock”. They released two albums, «Τα πάντα Ρε» (Everything in D) and «Ένα για τον δρόμο» (One for the road). The first album was a self-production while the second was recorded in Nikolas A Gkinis’ personal studio with his aid and collaboration.
In 2016 Elena recorded the song «Αμάραντος-Amarados» for Nikolas’ Ellenic Traditional Project and represented Greece and ERT in the EBU.
In 2020 the song «ΤΟ ΤΡΑΓΟΥΔΙ ΤΟΥ ΓΑΜΟΥ» Nikolas Gkinis – Elena Toutountzi – Sifis Kokolakis» was No #5 on EthnoCloud’s Top 40: Mediterranean for the month of February.
Congratulations! You can see the charts here. See you online,
